The Nordic House is a cultural institution under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The house was built in 1983 and has ever since been active as a Nordic cultural venue with a diverse programme activity, including all art forms and targeting all age and interest groups. The Nordic House’s primary remit as an open and vibrant cultural venue is to showcase Nordic art and culture on the Faroes and raise awareness about Faroese art and culture across the Nordic region. These strategies are developed in collaboration with other Nordic houses and institutions, and Faroese authorities, cultural institutions and societies. By maintaining this broadly anchored cultural collaboration, the Nordic House contributes to the Nordic people’s sense of togetherness and mutual understanding, and a stronger cohesiveness of the Nordic welfare states. The Nordic House has a professional board of five members of which one is Faroese and the rest are from respective Nordic countries. Additionally, the house has an advisory board with fifteen members appointed by the Faroese Ministry of Culture. The executive authority for the Nordic House lies with the Nordic Council of Ministers.
