Sendai is at the political and economic center of the Tohoku region in Northeastern Japan. It is also known as the ‘City of Trees’ and as an academic city. 400 years ago the founder of Sendai encouraged the people of Sendai to plant trees. Today you can see the awareness of nature handed down over the centuries in the beautiful harmony of greenery in the cityscape. In 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake struck and our coastal areas were severely damaged by the tsunami that followed. The people of Sendai have been able to not only overcome the disaster, but achieve reconstruction as well as share their experiences with the world to promote disaster prevention. Our efforts have earnt us certification from the United Nations as a role model city for disaster reduction. Understanding and getting up close to  research in the field of engineering and medicine, particularly by Tohoku University, and the ambitious reconstruction projects in agriculture, fishing and manufacturing, will be an exciting experience and certainly promote new ideas to your business research.
