Position: Sales Co-ordinator


What does your role entail: I track sales across the IBTM portfolio, issue contracts, provide support for our global team of account managers and work closely with exhibitors to make sure their experiences are as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Meetings industry experience: Before IBTM I worked briefly on Oceanology, an event for sub-sea technology. Before moving to the sales department, I worked in the Hosted Buyer team for EIBTM 2012 focusing on business development for UK buyers.

What is your favorite destination: Probably the Perhentian islands in Malaysia, but I’ve spent quite a lot of time in Barcelona and love it there for both business and pleasure.

Where would you like to travel to in the next year: I’m planning to travel around Cuba for a few weeks in January next year.

What is your top tip for an EIBTM exhibitor: Sign up and take actions early to maximize your exposure as well as your exhibiting partners. We have a new exhibitor portal this year, so I would recomend taking some time to explore the opportunities and benefits it has to offer. I always happy to help with any queries and show you around   

What interesting meetings exhibition/conferences have you been to recently: EIBTM 2012 was my first exhibition within the IBTM portfolio. It was great to see the show come together and get to know the exhibitors and work with the EIBTM team.

An industry issue you would like to see tackled at EIBTM 2013: I’m always interested to see the new technology surrounding the industry, so I’m especially looking forward to the hybrid conference this year at EIBTM.

Marco Balia

Position: Account Manager – Hosted Buyer Programme

What does your role entail: My role entails researching, targeting and recruiting top quality Hosted Buyers within the MICE industry through a wide range of communication channels. This involves also managing the company operative system to monitor registrations and pre-scheduled appointments, undertaking qualification and liaising with travel partners on flights and hotels whilst maintaining strict budget control. Finding and implementing effective strategies and innovative ideas is also crucial for my role performance. 

Meetings industry experience: I have been part of the Events Industry for more than 5 years. I have worked in prestigious international 5 stars venues coordinating different type of events including conferences, exhibitions and social functions for up to 4000 delegates and I have joined Reed Exhibitions in September 2012. I am also an active member of MPI, covering the position of Director of Marketing. Additionally, I have recently completed with a top grade a Master in International Events Management at the University of Surrey developing effective research skills and extensive knowledge about current trends and opportunities within the MICE industry.

My favorite destination: Sardinia

An industry issue you would like to see tackled at EIBTM 2013: A better understanding of the concept of ‘innovation’ within the MICE Industry: What counts is the implementation of new technologies/strategies or mainly adding REAL VALUE to the events?
