Fly Another Day- Michael Gentle

1. Tell us about your product and who your target audience is.

Our customers are event planners who have the challenge of choosing the best date and location for maximum attendance. With our webapp you can search where and when to hold an event to avoid date clashes with holidays and major events. You simply enter your event criteria, and it gives you a list of recommendations ranked by impact

2. What made you enter the awards and what did you envisage the benefits being as part of the Innovation Zone’s Top Ten?

Since we are the only technology supplier in event planning around dates and locations, it was only natural that we enter the competition; we felt sure we would get the judges attention.

We saw two main benefits of being in the top 10: firstly a validation of our concept, and secondly exposure to a wide international audience.

3. What has / have been the biggest benefit/s to your business as a result of being part of the Innovation Zone’s Top Ten at ibtm world?

The biggest benefits have been the validation of our product concept, which increased both our user base and our international exposure. This no doubt played a part in our selection in the top 5 for the Imex Pitch competition at Imex 2017 in Frankfurt.

4. What changes to your business have occurred since being part of the Innovation Zone’s Top Ten at EIBTM?

Particularly, can you share your biggest success?  Apart from the increased number of users, probably our  main success was our selection in the top 5 finalists for the 2017 Imex Pitch competition in Frankfurt.

5. What advice can you provide to a company to help them maximise being part of the Innovation Zone’s Top Ten at ibtm world?

You’ve clearly got to be doing something original and innovative. There are many competing products addressing the same business problems, so unless you are bringing something radically new to the table, it will probably not catch the judges attention.

6. What advice can you provide to a company that wants to launch a product to the MICE industry?

Be original and innovative

7. What advice would you give to this year’s applicants to be successful?

If you had the chance to do it again, what would you do it and, if so, what would you do differently?  If you’ve addressed the requirements for originality and innovation as explained above, then my advice would be to spend the time to make your replies short and simple. Give it to non-specialists to review, and if they don’t understand it, then you’ve probably got a problem!

Outside of the innovation zone, what were the benefits of attending / having a presence at ibtm world?

Networking and prospecting
